This week I attended the debate on the future of horseracing, which is threatened by the new affordability checks on gambling. The arguments against these checks have been very well made by many people in the industry and by MPs in the debate. I intervened to make the point that policy-making has clearly failed in this instance - the Government has so far refused to listen to these expert voices, and I suggested the policy is paused while a proper engagement with interested parties can take place.
