Good news - Wiltshire Council has been awarded £3.4million from the Department for Transport to fund 23 zero emission buses in the county.
This will enable the Council, working in partnership with bus operators, to take significant steps towards decarbonising bus travel, improving transport for local communities and supporting our climate change obligations.
Buses have a crucial role to play in driving transport decarbonisation. Each zero emission bus, on average, saves around 23kg of NOx and 46 tonnes of CO2 per year, relative to a diesel equivalent. The new state-of-the-art buses will also improve the passenger experience, providing users with considerably quieter, smoother, and more comfortable journeys. UK bus manufacturers are well placed to benefit from this funding, supporting green manufacturing jobs across the country, securing high-skill and high wage jobs, and boosting productivity.
