I was encouraged to receive this letter (attached below) from the Minister for Sport and Gambling. While I welcome the news that betting shops and on course bookmakers will not be affected by any changes in regulation to financial risk checks, I remain concerned that a large proportion of people who choose to bet remotely will still be impacted. The fact is that people’s methods of gambling have changed, and many people use technology and apps because of ease.
I appreciate the Minister’s continued engagement with representatives of the betting and racing industries, motivating them to work together, but I would urge more consideration be given to the issue of remote gambling.
