I'm very pleased to hear the news that the Government is rethinking its plans to change the way Army housing is allocated.
The plans would have meant allocations were based on how many children a member of the Armed Forces has, rather than on their rank AND family size, which is the current situation. Many fear this would lead to retention problems in the military and, as a result, have a negative impact on the Army's capabilities.
After conversations with constituents and with the Army Families Federation, I raised my concerns about the proposals with the Minister for Defence People and Families in December.
I'm thankful to Ministers for pausing the rollout of the new accommodation model while more research is done with serving soldiers and their families.
