The Government has recently revised the National Planning Policy Framework that determines local housebuilding. Following a series of meetings with councillors and ministers regarding unpopular local developments, I am pleased that Government has agreed to restrict the power of speculative developers to override local plans. Wiltshire is already exceeding our housebuilding target. To deal with the national housing crisis we need more affordable homes (not executive estates) in rural areas, more urban densification, and less demand overall. This is a good step towards ensuring we get the houses people want, in the areas that people want them, rather than allowing developers to dictate the shape of our communities.
