Yesterday the House of Commons was a sea of black and white. The party leaders and former Prime Ministers all gave powerful and moving speeches in tribute to the late Queen, and then it was our turn. I spoke about Her Majesty's role as the transmitter of the spirit of our country on the journey of modernity: 'she did not change', as Larkin said, but she was somehow always up to date. You can watch my speech here.
Tomorrow, Sunday, I will be at St Mary's in Marlborough for the 10.30am service - I expect churches will be well attended tomorrow in honour of Her Majesty - and then at the local Proclamation of the new King, HM King Charles III, which is taking place all over the country. Ours is at Old County Hall in Trowbridge at 1pm. Do join us.
