I am very pleased that Wiltshire Council has now launched its local Covid-19 contact tracing facility to support the national NHS service. I have always been of the view that the more local involvement the Government makes use of in testing, the better, and that our councils should play a vital role in the overall approach to tackling the coronavirus.
This new facility means the council will step in and use local methods to try and contact anyone in Wiltshire who has tested positive for coronavirus if the national contact tracers are unable to do so, and take details of any close contacts that person has had. The council will first sent a text message, and follow up with phone calls. Wiltshire Council is asking all residents to save the local service’s number – 0300 456 0100 – into their phones and not to dismiss these calls as cold-calls.
I hope this will help to further slow the spread of coronavirus in Wiltshire and make sure those who might need to self-isolate are being told as quickly as possible so they can access a test. For full information from Wiltshire Council click here.
