This weekend I wrote a piece with the MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, Miriam Cates, in the Daily Telegraph. We wrote about the the need for a new social and economic model that focuses not the maximum possible freedom and choice for individuals, but the 'common good'. By this we mean to say that individuals are most fulfilled, secure, and genuinely free when they belong to a strong family, a strong community, and a strong nation. These associations give us meaning, temper our selfishness and create forums to work out our differences, and encourage both individual and social flourishing.
