Apologies for the lack of a newsletter this weekend. Apart from a question to the Home Office minister about organised rural crime (see here) last week was fully occupied with preparing for the debate on the Second Reading debate on the Assisted Suicide bill - which my side lost.
I made the first speech after Kim Leadbeater, the MP proposing the new Bill, and spoke for around 25 minutes, including a number of interventions from other members. You can watch it all here.
The Bill now goes into committee. It passed with the support of a large number of MPs who admitted the Bill needs serious attention to make it safe. I hope it either is made safe, or - failing the necessary improvements - it is defeated when it comes back for Third Reading.
With best wishes
Danny
