South Western Ambulance Service is calling on all communities who have fundraised for defibrillators to serve their local area to register them with the local ambulance service, so 999 call handlers can let callers know if there is a privately-owned defibrillator nearby in the case of a sudden cardiac arrest.
Private ownership of defibrillators is not regulated, and so sharing of information is down to individual preference. South Western Ambulance Service has its own free accreditation scheme for private defibrillator owners to register, and have more than 4,907 registered in this way across the region.
